About
Geoffroy's tamarin (Saguinus geoffroyi). A small tamarin whose main habitat is dry forests in northwestern Colombia and eastern Panama. Body length 20–30 cm, weight about 350–490 g; it has a nonprehensile tail and claw-like nails, and moves through the trees by quadrupedal and vertical locomotion. Diurnal; eats insects, fruit, flowers and nectar, and small animals. Forms multi-male multi-female groups of 2–19 individuals, and the group marks territory. Reproduction is seasonal; gestation is about five months and usually results in twins. Populations are declining due to habitat reduction and hunting for the pet trade, but the species is currently listed as Least Concern.
