About
The tiger is widely distributed in the forests and grasslands of Asia, inhabiting a variety of environments such as Bangladesh, India, and the Russian Far East. It is solitary and maintains territories, and as an apex predator it mainly preys on ungulates. It is skilled at swimming and running; breeding can occur year-round or seasonally depending on the region, and gestation lasts about three months. Populations have declined sharply due to poaching by humans and habitat destruction, and the IUCN classifies it as Endangered (IUCN Red List category I B).
