About
The chimpanzee is a flexible primate widely distributed from West to Central Africa, adapting to habitats from tropical rainforest to woodland savanna. It primarily eats fruit but also uses leaves, seeds, insects, meat, and honey. It forms multi-male multi-female groups of about 30 individuals with fission–fusion dynamics and a male-centric social structure, uses tools, and communicates with a variety of vocalizations. However, aggressive behaviors such as hunting and intergroup conflict are also observed, and its conservation status is Endangered (EN, IUCN Red List Category 1B).
