About
Abyssinian colobus (Colobus guereza). Distributed widely across Africa from Ethiopia to Tanzania, Uganda, and Central African countries, it lives in the canopy of deciduous and evergreen forests. Notable for its long black-and-white fur and white facial markings, it has a body length of 45–72 cm and a long tail. Primarily leaf-eating, it digests leaves with a multi-chambered stomach that houses symbiotic microbes, so it spends long periods resting. Groups are typically one-male multi-female, and allomothering by individuals other than the mother is observed. Populations are declining due to habitat destruction and hunting; its conservation status is currently Least Concern.
