About
The Red kangaroo (Macropus rufus) is the largest living marsupial, widely distributed across the arid regions of mainland Australia, inhabiting grasslands and open woodlands. With a large body and powerful hind limbs it moves by hopping, enabling high-speed travel and long leaps. It is herbivorous and ferments food using microbes in the stomach. Socially it forms mobs with one dominant male and multiple females. Breeding occurs almost year-round and may involve delayed implantation. Conservation status: Least Concern.
