About
The Blue-eyed black lemur (Eulemur flavifrons) is a lemur that inhabits dry forests in northern Madagascar, and, as its name indicates, is characterized by blue eyes. It primarily eats fruit, and during the dry season consumes leaves, flowers, and seeds; it has been suggested that at certain times it may prey heavily on cicadas. Groups consist of 4–11 individuals and form a female-dominant society. Breeding occurs in November–December, and 1–2 young are born in March–April of the following year. Population numbers are very low, and it is classified as Critically Endangered (CR – IUCN category Ia).
