About
The Hanuman langur (Semnopithecus entellus) is a monkey distributed across a variety of habitats in India and Bangladesh, including dry areas and moist forests. It spends much of its time on the ground but also climbs trees. Body length is about 65 cm for males and about 60 cm for females, with a long tail. Groups form either one-male multiple-female or multiple-male multiple-female structures ranging from 2 to 100 individuals. They primarily feed on a wide range of plant material such as leaves, fruits, flowers, and bark. Breeding is concentrated from July to October, and the gestation period is about 200 days. Populations are declining due to habitat change and hunting, but the species is currently classified as Least Concern.
