Spotted deer (Axis axis). A spotted deer distributed in forests and grasslands of the Indian subcontinent, characterized by a beautiful coat with spots that remain throughout the year. It is a grazer that primarily eats grasses on the ground and depends on water, with activity increasing during dawn and dusk. Social structure is based on herds centered on females and their young; males have antlers and breeding occurs year-round. Although its range is wide and it is of low conservation concern overall, localized declines have been reported.
