About
The bobcat (Lynx rufus) is a species of the genus Lynx widely distributed across North America. It adapts to a variety of habitats, from forests, grasslands, and wetlands to semi-desert, and is found at elevations up to about 3,500 m; in recent years it has also been seen in suburban areas. It is an obligate carnivore that mainly preys on small mammals weighing 1–5 kg such as rabbits, and is nocturnal to crepuscular in its activity. Bobcats are solitary and hold territories, marking them to indicate boundaries. Breeding can occur year-round, though births are most common in spring to summer. Its conservation status is Least Concern (LC).
