The Black snub-nosed monkey (Rhinopithecus bieti) is a monkey that lives in the alpine zone of southwestern China. It inhabits extremely cold environments at altitudes of about 3,000–4,300 m and is diurnal, feeding on leaves, lichens, fruits, and bark. There is strong sexual dimorphism, with males larger than females; small one-male multi-female groups gather to form large troops numbering in the hundreds. Population numbers are low due to habitat destruction and hunting, and the species is listed as threatened.
