The Northern pig‑tailed macaque (Macaca leonina) is a macaque that inhabits lowland broadleaf forests from the Indochinese Peninsula to northeastern India. It is highly terrestrial with a large home range, and during the day it primarily eats fruit, also feeding on leaves, flowers, and insects. It lives in multi-male multi-female groups of 15–40 individuals with a clear dominance hierarchy, breeds year‑round, and has a gestation period of about 160–180 days. Its population is declining due to deforestation and hunting, and it is listed as Vulnerable (VU).
