About
Grey seal (Halichoerus grypus). Distributed in the North Atlantic and adjacent seas, with several isolated populations. Males are larger and have a developed snout; during the breeding season they may maintain territories on land for extended periods and fast. The milk is very high in fat, and pups grow rapidly in a short time. Diet is diverse, including fish, cephalopods, and crustaceans, making them generalist predators. Population numbers have recovered and are increasing, and their conservation status is of least concern, but chemical pollution and bycatch can pose threats.
