About
Binturong. An arboreal member of the civet family (Viverridae) that inhabits evergreen and secondary forests of Southeast Asia, known for emitting an odor reminiscent of popcorn. Omnivorous and fond of fruit, it also serves as a seed disperser. Mostly nocturnal and primarily solitary, but individuals come together during the breeding season and when raising young. The body is large and it can grasp trees with a strong, prehensile tail, but habitat destruction and hunting have reduced populations and it is listed as Vulnerable (IUCN Red List category VU). Scientific name: Arctictis binturong.
