About
The Hamadryas baboon is distributed in Africa and the Arabian Peninsula and is adapted to arid environments such as semi‑desert steppes and dry savannas. Its long white hair covers the back, forming the “mantle” that gives the species its common name. Groups form a multilayered social structure composed of units → clans → bands → troops. Omnivorous, it eats grasses, seeds, fruits, eggs, tree resin, insects, and other items. There is no seasonality to breeding, and the gestation period is about 170 days. With reduced predation pressure in some areas, population numbers are stable or increasing, and its conservation status is Least Concern.
