About
Brindled wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus). Widely distributed in savannas, open grasslands, and shrublands, it is especially known for the great migration in the Serengeti. Large numbers form herds and seasonally move long distances in search of forage. Both males and females have horns; they are grazers that feed mainly on grasses (Poaceae). Gestation lasts about eight months, producing a single offspring that can walk shortly after birth. Populations are large and generally stable, and the IUCN lists the species as Least Concern, but fences, habitat destruction, and disease can pose threats.
