About
The Large Indian civet (Viverra zibetha) inhabits forests, swamp forests, and mangrove areas of South and Southeast Asia, and can also be found in secondary forests and plantations. It is nocturnal, primarily terrestrial, and lives solitarily. Its diet is diverse, including birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish, crustaceans, and fruits. Head and body length is about 80 cm, tail length about 40 cm, and weight varies between 3.4 and 11 kg. Secretions from its scent glands are used for marking. Populations are declining due to hunting pressure and habitat destruction, but the IUCN classifies it as Least Concern.
