About
The common eland is one of the largest species of antelope, inhabiting savannas, highland grasslands, and shrublands. Both males and females have twisted horns; males are larger and have a well-developed dewlap. It is primarily a browser that feeds on leaves, shrubs, and fruits, and is preyed upon by lions and cheetahs. Herds are formed by females while males tend to be solitary. Gestation lasts about 8.5–9 months, and typically a single calf is born. Conservation status: Least Concern.
