About
The red kangaroo (Macropus rufus) is the largest living marsupial, widely distributed across the arid regions of mainland Australia, inhabiting grasslands and open woodlands. It moves by hopping with a large body and powerful hind limbs, enabling high-speed travel and long jumps. Herbivorous, it ferments food with microbes in its stomach. Socially, it forms mobs with one or a few males and multiple females. Reproduction occurs almost year-round and may involve embryonic diapause. Its conservation status is Least Concern.
