About
The grey fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus) is a canid widely distributed from North and Central America into parts of South America. It primarily inhabits deciduous and mixed forests and coniferous woodlands, and is also found in thickets and suburban areas. Its body length is about 48–73 cm, with a long tail, and it marks with scent glands. Omnivorous, it feeds on rodents, insects, fruits, carrion, and other items, and is known to cache food in the ground. Mostly nocturnal or crepuscular and generally solitary, it is adept at climbing trees and uses dens or burrows. Breeding occurs mainly from winter to early spring; gestation lasts about 53–63 days, multiple young are born at a time, and both parents rear the offspring. Populations are currently stable and its conservation status is Least Concern.
