About
Grant's gazelle (Nanger granti) is a medium-sized gazelle that inhabits savannas, semi-deserts, and woodlands of eastern Africa. It has a body length of about 1.4–1.7 m and a weight of 45–65 kg; males have longer horns and are larger than females. It feeds on grasses and leaves and can survive for some time without water. Herds number around 30 individuals, led by a male. When a predator is detected, they respond with alarm behaviors and rapid flight, and they possess a mechanism to regulate heat in the brain. Although the overall population is large, it is declining, and the IUCN assesses the species as Least Concern.
