About
The lechwe (Kobus leche) is an antelope of southern Africa that depends on wetlands, marshes, and floodplains. Its body length is about 1.3–1.8 m, with long hind legs; only males bear horns. It is a grazer that eats grasses and aquatic plants and is notably adapted to shallow water. It is crepuscular; males and females usually behave separately, but during the breeding season many males gather in leks where females choose mates. Populations are declining, and it is classified as Near Threatened.
