About
The Bank vole (Clethrionomys glareolus) is widely distributed across Europe in moist habitats such as forests, scrublands, and marshes. Its body length is about 10–11 cm, tail length 3–4 cm, and weight approximately 15–40 g. It chiefly eats leaves, grasses, fruits, seeds, and nuts, and also consumes earthworms, insects, and fungi. It makes shallow burrows in the ground and is active day and night but is especially active at dawn and dusk. The breeding season runs from April to October; it is highly prolific, with a relatively short gestation and rapid growth, while wild lifespan is generally short. Its conservation status is listed as Least Concern.
