About
The Eurasian red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) is an arboreal squirrel widely distributed across the Eurasian continent, inhabiting forests and parks across a broad range of elevations. Its fur color and ear tufts vary by season and between populations. It feeds mainly on seeds, acorns, fruits, and insects. Diurnal and generally solitary, it commonly builds nests in trees. In some areas it breeds multiple times a year; the gestation period is about 38–39 days and juveniles grow relatively quickly. Due to its wide distribution, its conservation status is currently considered Least Concern.
