About
The Addra gazelle (Nanger dama) is a large gazelle that inhabits the savannas and steppes of the Sahel region. Its body length is 1.4–1.7 m, and males weigh 40–75 kg, making it one of the largest of the gazelles. It is primarily a browser that feeds on leaves, flowers, fruits, and similar items, and it forms small groups with one male and multiple females. Breeding occurs mainly from August to October; gestation lasts about 5.5–6 months, and the young become independent in a short time. Wild populations are extremely small, and due to poaching and habitat destruction the species is classified as Critically Endangered (IUCN Red List category: CR).
