About
Margay. A small felid widely distributed across lowland tropical rainforests of Central and South America, highly adapted to an arboreal lifestyle. It is small in size including the tail, and uses its long tail and flexible ankle joints to move along branches and descend trees headfirst. Primarily carnivorous, it eats small rodents, birds, lizards, frogs, and occasionally small primates and fruit. Nocturnal and solitary, breeding can occur year-round; gestation is about 76–84 days and typically results in a single offspring. Populations have declined due to habitat loss and poaching, and it is classified as Near Threatened.
