About
The pileated gibbon (Hylobates pileatus) is a gibbon that inhabits tropical evergreen forests of Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos. Its body length is about 45–64 cm and its weight about 4–8 kg; it has no tail. It is diurnal and mainly eats fruit, also consuming leaves, insects, and eggs. It spends almost all of its time in trees and moves by brachiation. The social system is monogamous; pairs exchange duet songs to maintain their territory and parent–child relationships. Populations have declined due to habitat destruction and hunting, and it is classified as Endangered (IUCN Category I B).
