About
Black-and-red tamarin (Leontocebus nigricollis). A tamarin that inhabits tropical rainforests from northern Peru to southern Colombia. Diurnal, it feeds mainly on insects and also eats fruit, flowers, and tree sap. It lives in small groups; breeding can occur year-round and it typically gives birth to twins. Infant care is cooperatively performed by group members, and communication uses ultrasonic vocalizations and scent glands. Although affected by habitat reduction, its current conservation status is considered of Least Concern.
