About
The greater kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) is a large browser distributed mainly in woodlands and thickets of southern to eastern Africa. Males have impressive long spirally twisted horns, and their head-body length and shoulder height are among the larger sizes for antelopes. They feed mainly on tree leaves and fruits and are active at dawn and dusk. Females form small herds while males live alone or in bachelor groups. Gestation lasts about nine months and typically results in a single offspring. Population levels are stable or increasing overall and the IUCN lists the species as Least Concern, but in some regions populations decline due to hunting pressure.
