About
Arabian oryx. A desert-adapted species with a pale body coloration, black facial markings, and long horns in both sexes, it inhabits stony plains, sand dunes, and wadis. It is tolerant of high temperatures and drought, able to survive for several months on water obtained from plants. Herds form small groups with one male and multiple females, breeding occurs year-round, and gestation lasts about eight months, usually resulting in a single offspring. Once extinct in the wild, reintroduction has led to recovery of wild populations, and numbers are now increasing under conservation.
