About
Goeldi's monkey (Callimico goeldii). It lives in the understory and bamboo thickets of the Amazon region in Colombia, Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia. It forages at low levels for fruit, tree resin, small animals, and especially fungi, spending a large proportion of its time feeding on mushrooms. The body is small and relatively short even including the tail, and it commonly forms single-male, multi-female groups of about 10 individuals. Reproduction typically produces one infant, and females can give birth multiple times a year. Populations have declined due to deforestation, and the species is classified as threatened.
