About
The Bolivian squirrel monkey (Saimiri boliviensis) is a squirrel monkey distributed in the upper Amazon regions of Bolivia, Brazil, and Peru. Diurnal, it eats a variety of foods including fruit, small animals, flowers, and nectar, and it travels widely to forage. It typically forms matrilineal troops of about 50 individuals and actively communicates by scent-marking and vocalizations. The breeding season is confined to a certain period each year; after a gestation of about 160 days, a single offspring is born. Currently assessed as of Least Concern, it is nevertheless affected by hunting and habitat destruction.
