About
Silvered lutung (Trachypithecus cristatus). An arboreal monkey found in coastal forests and mangrove forests of Borneo, Sumatra, and other areas. The body is dark with mixed white hairs; juveniles are orange and take 3–5 months to change to the adult coloration. They feed mainly on young leaves and have a multi-chambered stomach that aids digestion, so their activity level is relatively low. Groups are unimale–multifemale, numbering 9–51 individuals, and group takeovers and infanticide have been observed. Classified as Near Threatened.
