About
White-headed capuchin (Cebus capucinus). It lives in forests and mangrove forests from eastern Panama to western Colombia and northeastern Ecuador. Notable for the white hair spreading over the face, chest, and shoulders, its body length is about 40 cm and body weight is 2–4 kg, with males somewhat larger. It eats a varied diet including fruit, insects, mollusks, amphibians, and bird eggs. Highly social, it forms multi-male multi-female groups of about 20 individuals; males have a dominance hierarchy and typically leave the group at around four years of age while females remain in their natal group. Breeding is most common from January to April, and gestation lasts about 160 days. Its current conservation status is Least Concern.
