About
The spectral tarsier is a nocturnal tarsier that inhabits the tropical rainforests of Sulawesi and nearby islands in Indonesia. Its body length is 9.5–14 cm and its tail 20–26 cm; males are slightly heavier. Its eyes are larger than its brain and cannot rotate, so it turns its head extensively. It has large hands and feet and long legs adapted for clinging to tree trunks vertically and leaping, and it preys on moving animals such as insects, lizards, and bats. Groups maintain territories marked with urine and scent glands; reproduction occurs once every two years, with a gestation of about six months and a single offspring per birth. Because of habitat loss, it is classified as Near Threatened (IUCN Red List category II).
