About
Olive baboon. A large, terrestrial monkey widely distributed across savannas near the equator in Africa. Males are larger than females and have well-developed canine teeth. Omnivorous, feeding on fruits and leaves and sometimes preying on animals such as impalas and rabbits. They form large multi-male multi-female troops with a basic matrilineal social structure, and an alpha male occupies the top of the hierarchy. Breeding occurs year-round; gestation is about 180 days and usually results in a single offspring. Because of their wide distribution and high adaptability, their conservation status is Least Concern.
